Above: The Filipino version of Twilight, with Rayver Cruz as Edward and Shaina Magdayao as Bella.
Twilight is showing, and like every other fan, psuedo or otherwise, I've always wanted to see what all the hype was about. I got to see the movie because of the cam copy (very obviously pirated) that somebody saved in the office computer.
I'm not really taken by the movie, 100%, but I do like repeating certain scenes. To be perfectly honest, it lacks many many elements of a good movie, but I have to admit it was entertaining in some respect (Robert Pattinson is such good eye candy. haha).
I saw this picture in Perez Hilton's blog, and had to do a double take because the pose itself looked familiar...
...and then bam, there it was, a remake of the wildly popular Twilight movie. In the comments section, there was an extensive debate regarding the merits of making a remake, or credibility, and heck, it even got to boil down to a racism angle.
Personally, I think it's a bad idea. Icky. These people are only setting themselves up for embarrassment, trying to do a remake of it. People will be thinking about the original twilight movie the whole time, and these actors and production company will be unrelentingly compared to original.
And how about the storyline, will be they copying it down to the letter? Translate it to Filipino?
If this were a real project, I wouldn't probably watch it. It just doesn't look right...and copycats are not going to be as interesting, or as good as the real thing.
Why not try something else for a change?
