Ick.

Above: The Filipino version of Twilight, with Rayver Cruz as Edward and Shaina Magdayao as Bella
.

Twilight is showing, and like every other fan, psuedo or otherwise, I've always wanted to see what all the hype was about. I got to see the movie because of the cam copy (very obviously pirated) that somebody saved in the office computer.

I'm not really taken by the movie, 100%, but I do like repeating certain scenes. To be perfectly honest, it lacks many many elements of a good movie, but I have to admit it was entertaining in some respect (Robert Pattinson is such good eye candy. haha).

I saw this picture in Perez Hilton's blog, and had to do a double take because the pose itself looked familiar...

...and then bam, there it was, a remake of the wildly popular Twilight movie. In the comments section, there was an extensive debate regarding the merits of making a remake, or credibility, and heck, it even got to boil down to a racism angle.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. Icky. These people are only setting themselves up for embarrassment, trying to do a remake of it. People will be thinking about the original twilight movie the whole time, and these actors and production company will be unrelentingly compared to original.

And how about the storyline, will be they copying it down to the letter? Translate it to Filipino?

If this were a real project, I wouldn't probably watch it. It just doesn't look right...and copycats are not going to be as interesting, or as good as the real thing.

Why not try something else for a change?

Tree Lights

The tree-lined Rizal Boulevard is filled with these tiny twinkling lights...three thousand in all.

"Out"-ted

To be perfectly honest, I had initially thought about making this blog my "undercover" one. In a world where anything you say, can and will be, held against you, I figured I needed a break. I wanted a place to rant without anyone knowing who was doing the ranting.

it was all going pretty well, when suddenly, I get to read this post on one of my friend's blogs. haha. i've been outed! oh well, there goes my supposedly hush-hush existence...

Not that it would have mattered. I haven't even written anything that could implicate me anyway. whew.

On outsourcing

No outsourcing here: Jobs that are staying put. <-- I read this article after finding it in one of my random clicking moments. I commented, because I felt it had a really weird flavor to it...as if it was condescending. Subtly sarcastic...well, to me, at least.

The message it was trying to say was something like, "Hey, Regular Joe, you've busted your ass working on college, are you just going to stand by and let some foreigner take your job away from you?" I don't know about you, but it felt pretty mean. Employees from other countries can't help but give out work performance that exceed expectations from investors. The "less expensive" labor costs are part of the major draw too, if I might add.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems condescending. A little more careful word-work, if you please.

(psst...what do you think?)

The story of Sonia

Sonia isn't my real name.

It's actually a moniker for ISONIAZID, one of the four "wonder drugs" used in combination to cure Tuberculosis.

Back in Med School, when we made a video as part of the learning series for our Therapeutics course, we came up with the concept of having superheroes who comprised the four drugs that were used in TB therapy, with the Mycobacteria villains and all in an action-packed (we believed) adventure short.

It wasn't for Hollywood, of course, but we had a lot of fun making it. We filmed it in beautiful Guimaras (at our classmate Archie's place) and we added in all the elements of an "X-Men" episode. :-)

Oh, it was such fun...We had make-up artists, costumes, we even had catering (it was Archie's birthday that day and he provided all the refreshments).

The main purpose of the video was to teach, to help the audience understand how anti-TB medication worked in patients, including their effects. Our concept was that of four superheroes (us, of course) who were called to battle the invaders. We even had a poster for it. I'd post it, but then I have some issues about showing off my less-than-perfect bod. Haha.

Just a peek, though. This is a rendition of Sonia, the Amazon Princess
, shot in her "natural habitat", in the rainforests of the Amazon.
